Dong Fang Hotel

Hi guys!  Another hotel review for today.  Today I will blog about the Dong Fang Hotel in Guangzhou, China.  Guangzhou is the former capital of China and it was previously known as Canton.  Dong Fang Hotel was the first 5-star hotel established in Guangzhou (well, that's according to our tour guide) and Dong Fang means Oriental.  The hotel has 2 blocks of buildings connected by a grand lobby.  The lobby area is huge, although the sitting area is limited.

The main lobby..the dome on top is so huge, it creates a very loud echo.

Nice dividers at the reception area
The rooms are clean and nice.  However, the rooms have seen better days.  The ottoman needs to be re-upholstered.  The sink is too shallow, it's prone to water spillage over the counter when you use it.  Even the drain in the bathtub/shower area seems to be too old (or too clogged) to drain water in a timely manner.  It takes around 5 minutes for it to drain the water you used for a quick shower.

Inside the room...the cabinet is very oriental..nice.
If you look closely, there is a small sign stuck at the bottom of the mirror.  It says "Non-directly drinking".  :-)
All in all, the hotel is a nice one.  It is rich in history and the grounds are vast and spacious.  The staff are courteous and pleasant.  As for the buffet breakfast, it has the right amount of western and eastern food choices.

If you are in Guangzhou, I recommend the Dong Fang Hotel.  Talk to you guys soon.  Have a great day!  Thanks for dropping by.
